As we continue with our safeguarding journey in the
Diocese of Nottingham, safeguarding training is a
priority this year for all clergy, employees, and
volunteers to update everyone with changes and move
forward with safeguarding practice.

Domestic Abuse
The Diocesan domestic abuse policy and guidance will be
available in June to work alongside the practice guidance
produced by the National Board of Catholic Women.
Domestic abuse training will be required by Clergy, Leaders
and PSR’S and recommended for any other roles who would
like to attend. The training will be available from June this
year and advertised on the website.
Parish Safeguarding Handbook
The Diocese now has a parish safeguarding handbook, which
is available to view on the website. Hard copies will be sent
out to the parishes over the next few weeks and further
copies, if needed can be downloaded from the website. We
will discuss the handbook further during the training sessions.
Training Update
The leadership safeguarding training has been delivered from
February to March and well attended. A virtual session will be
advertised for those who have been unable to attend.

Safer Recruitment
The new online DBS application route has
been live for a month now and I hope you and
your volunteers have seen the benefits in the
reduction of paperwork. The new DBS3C
form is the only paperwork that needs to be
completed, along with copies of the ID, as all
the ‘old paperwork’ is now incorporated into
the online DBS application form. The new
packs have all been uploaded onto the
website.
We still have the paper application route for
those volunteers who do not have an email
address.
New roles are being created in many of our
parishes, especially with the ‘Warm Hub’
initiative. As many of you are aware common
DBS role descriptions are available on the
website. If a role description is not available,
please create your own (we can provide you
with a template to amend) and send to the
safeguarding office and we will determine if
it meets the criteria for a DBS check.
Parish Safeguarding Reps
Thank you everyone for your continued commitment and support,
it can be a difficult time when changes are being implemented.
The Diocesan training will provide further clarity of any changes and
the parish safeguarding handbook will be a valuable resource for
parishes in providing clearer direction with parish safeguarding. We
have gained many new PSR’s over the past few months, which is very
encouraging and great news for the parishes and the diocese. And a
huge thank you for the PSR’s who have dedicated their time and
efforts over the years but have recently stepped down from their role.
