Pastoral
Council
St. Winefride’s Parish Pastoral Council
Current 3 year Term of Office: (as
co-ordinated throughout the Diocese) 1 January 2009 to 31
December 2011.
Our Parish Pastoral Council was conceived during
the 2003 Nottingham Diocesan Assembly - one of many new
ideas designed to strengthen and build caring Christian
communities within each Parish. A Parish Census was held in June
2005 and eight Parish Local Areas were formed - each containing a similar
number of households (approximately 50) and based on the
existing estates in Shepshed - with Belton, Hathern and Long Whatton
joining with their nearest, neighbouring Shepshed Areas. The PPC's
inaugural commissioning Mass took place in St. Winefride's Church on
Sunday, 11 June 2006.
Our PPC consists of twelve people - Fr. Michael
and Deacon Bill plus two appointed (there are two vacancies at
present) and eight elected members - the parishioners living in
each of the eight new Parish Local Areas elect one person, chosen
from the candidates standing within their own Area, to be their
Area’s representative on the PPC.
The current members of the PPC are Fr. Michael,
Deacon Bill, Breda Kavanagh, and representing Areas: 1 Luis
Vaz, 2 Paul Turner, 3 (vacant), 4 (vacant), 5 (vacant), 6 Peter
Lester, 7 Brenda Fox and 8 Janet Wale.
The PPC - your PPC - exists to enable us
all to work together to build a dynamic Christian community that is
characterised by faith, evangelisation and worship - where everyone
is most warmly welcomed to play their part, no matter how
small. Essentially, we are all of us attempting to bring the
parishioners who live within each of our 8 Areas closer together
- by applying the basic Christian principals of looking out for
and helping one another.
PPC meetings are publicised in advance and all
parishioners are warmly invited to submit any item for inclusion on
the Agenda - if you have a matter that you wish to be raised please
hand it in writing to your area representative, to any member of the
PPC, or place it in the PPC box provided in the main church porch.
Are you interested in
representing your area on the PPC? There are currently vacancies for
areas 3, 4 and 5. In the event that more than one person expresses an
interest an election would be held. However, this would not be
necessary if only one person per area comes forward. If you are
interested just make yourself known to any member of the PPC.
